What to do when none of the usual recommendations for insomnia work?
- You drink chamomile tea, avoid watching TV, cut out black tea and caffeine, exercise regularly, go to bed early, and still can’t seem to close your eyes?

You may have already consulted a doctor, who prescribed medication to calm you down (anxiolytics, e.g. Neurol) or for sleep (hypnotics, e.g. Midazolam).
These medications belong to the group of Benzodiazepines, which should only be used short-term, for about a month, as they can easily lead to dependence, the removal of which can be very challenging.
People may experience side effects from these medications such as fatigue and daytime drowsiness, dizziness, aggression, irritability, apathy, and nightmares.
These medications have a calming effect. They help us relax and fall asleep. At that moment, they relieve the symptom, but they do not solve the root cause, and without solving the cause, we cannot fully heal.
